What are you? vs. Who are You?
Now if you can drop out of the trance and break the spell of always, always feeling yourself through the WHO, and instead investigate the WHAT of you - well, you're onto something.
WHO is what everyone lives all the time, every day. You are an actor, playing the role of you, and it is so believable that even you forget that it is just an act!
So much drama! Suspense! So many other characters to interact with, learn from, even fall in love with. Such an amazing game to be played, such an amazing live action movie to have a role in!
Oh, but then sometimes not so much, and sometimes really not so much. Sometimes it is sad, tragic, depressing scenes you act out. Your character suffers, makes poor decisions, gets involved with deceptive characters who bring about shitty situations. It can seem unbearably bleak, really.
And what is your character to do, what are you to do? It's so heavy and intense, there is no relief from the stress, and tension, anxiety, and sorrow.... You must play this terrible role, and never break character!!!
Or....look straight into the camera, break that 5th wall, and let yourself in on the secret that you are actually just an actor playing your role!
Now you can investigate the WHAT of your existence. No longer are you enchanted into only acting out the WHO. Now you have some separation from always just being the WHO and acting out your role, and being completely in character. So WHAT are you? Look around with a silent mind, feel, and look at where you are. What is all this? What's your best guess. Consider all the circumstances and situations of your existence. Oh my, it's so crazy!
Here is the awestruck-ness, the lead into gratitude, grace, and bliss. It's just such a total remarkable mystery. You were stuck with your head down, plodding along, completely believing you were so and so, with so much to do and take care of, and that was completely you. You were the WHO, the character, playing the role. Now you don't only live in that state, but you step out of character and view your situation in the very basic way of just being a being that exists. You now see what an amazing, unbelievably complex and astounding situation you are in, just being alive. Whatever created this you are grateful to, amazed by, and you can feel and enjoy what it is to be alive, with no further attachments, classifications, or hang-ups.
